The exact clinical scope
Named procedure or treatment pathway, diagnosis used for the estimate, treating consultant, hospital campus and planned technique.
A useful hospital quote explains the clinical scope, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions behind the total. Use this checklist to compare like for like before choosing treatment in India.
A total without these details cannot be compared fairly. Ask the hospital to confirm each section in writing.
Named procedure or treatment pathway, diagnosis used for the estimate, treating consultant, hospital campus and planned technique.
Consultations, imaging, pathology review, blood tests, pre-anaesthesia assessment and any test still required after arrival.
Surgeon or physician, anaesthesia, assisting specialists, theatre or procedure room, nursing, ICU and room category.
Brand or specification where relevant, quantity, price ceiling, high-cost medicines, blood products and major consumables.
Planned ICU and ward days, extra-day charges, companion arrangements and the expected time in India after discharge.
Items outside the estimate, complication-related care, repeat procedures, rehabilitation, discharge medicines and follow-up consultations.
Two estimates can look different because they are based on different assumptions. Align these fields before deciding that one hospital is cheaper.
Do not hide clinical information to obtain a lower figure. Missing reports, previous treatment or important medical conditions can make the estimate inaccurate and delay safe care.
A total is shown without the procedure, consultant, room or inclusions.
A fixed price is promised before anyone has read the reports.
An implant or device is mentioned without a specification, limit or alternative.
The quote does not explain what happens if treatment or the stay changes.
Success, cure, pregnancy or transplant approval is promised as certain.
You are pushed to transfer money before the provider and cancellation terms are clear.
Match the beneficiary. Confirm the account belongs to the hospital or provider named in the estimate.
Reference the patient. Ask what patient name, hospital ID or estimate number to include.
Understand the deposit. Confirm which booking or clinical service the payment secures.
Read cancellation terms. Know which part is refundable if the visa, travel or treatment plan changes.
Keep the receipt. Save the transfer confirmation and obtain the provider’s acknowledgement.
No. An estimate is based on the information and assumptions available before treatment. The final bill reflects the care actually delivered, including any clinically necessary changes, additional tests or longer stay.
The quote should state whether the named consultant, assisting doctors, anaesthetist and other specialist fees are included. Separate line items are useful, but a package is acceptable when its scope is clear.
Ask for the type, specification or expected brand, quantity and any price ceiling. Where the final choice depends on anatomy or availability, the hospital should explain how a more expensive option changes the total.
Common exclusions can include unexpected ICU or room days, additional procedures, high-cost medicines, blood products, specialist consultations, complication-related care, rehabilitation and travel costs. The actual exclusions must be written by the hospital.
Follow the hospital’s written payment policy. Confirm the receiving account, deposit purpose, refund or cancellation terms and receipt process before transferring money. Avoid personal accounts unless the hospital formally identifies one as authorised.
We can help organise the clinical scope and inclusions so estimates can be compared more accurately. We cannot determine clinical suitability or guarantee that a quoted figure will be the final bill.
Ask why. A shorter expected stay may reflect a different technique, room assumption or clinical pathway. It can also make the total appear lower while leaving extra days outside the package.
Usually they are separate unless the quote explicitly states otherwise. Budget visa fees, flights, accommodation outside hospital, meals, local transport and the companion’s costs independently.
We can organise the inclusions, exclusions and assumptions so you know which questions to send back to the hospital.
